Civil RightsIn 1963, 200,000 people march on Washington, DC. It is the largest non-violent demonstration ever held to support civil rights.

Then, in 1965, five days of racial rioting in Los Angeles claim 34 lives and injure another 1,000. Property damage is estimated at $40 million, and 4,000 people are arrested.

The U.S. Supreme Court rules that state-sponsored prayer in schools is unconstitutional.

With the US commitment in Vietnam growing, so does the anti-war opposition. By 1967, large-scale protests are held in New York, San Francisco and other cities. Draft dodgers flee to Canada while others simply burn their draft cards in protest.
